Liability — who is responsible for what

Ekasi to the Burbs is an introduction and payment platform. We help you find a worker and we hold the money safely until the job is done. We are not the contractor.

What we ARE responsible for

  • Vetting workers (ID verification and reference checks) before they appear in the directory. We do not perform criminal background checks.
  • Holding payment safely in escrow until you confirm the job is complete.
  • Running a fair dispute process if something goes wrong.
  • Protecting your personal information under POPIA.

What we are NOT responsible for

  • The price you agree with the worker.
  • The scope, quality, or timing of the work performed.
  • Injury to the worker, you, or anyone else on the property.
  • Damage to your property, the worker's equipment, or a third party's property.
  • Theft, loss, or consequential loss arising from the job.
  • Tax or labour-law obligations between you and the worker — workers are independent contractors, not Ekasi employees.

How we reduce your risk anyway

  1. Vetting badges — only verified workers appear.
  2. Escrow — money is only released when you say so, or automatically after 72 hours.
  3. Disputes — see our dispute policy.
  4. Live tracking — workers can opt in to share their live location with you on the way to the job.

Materials and equipment

When you post a job you must say who supplies materials (paint, cleaning products, plants, etc.) and who supplies equipment (tools, ladders, machinery). This is shown on the job so there is no confusion later. If nothing is specified, the default is that the worker brings their own tools and the customer pays for consumables.

Indemnity

By using Ekasi to the Burbs, both customer and worker agree to indemnify Ekasi to the Burbs (Pty) Ltd and its officers against any claim, loss, or damage arising from the job itself, except where Ekasi has been grossly negligent in its own duties (vetting, escrow handling, data protection).
